LATEST NEWS
Hello everyone! We’d like to start by offering a warm welcome to our new pupils and parents who have joined us this term. We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and we are well back into the swing of things now here at Mavlow School of Dance.
Throwing it back to before Christmas, you’ll remember we had our annual Medal Tests, which were held on Sunday 10th December 2023. The Marking System for the Medal Tests is as follows:
- Pass (65-69 Marks)
- Pass Plus (70-74 Marks)
- Merit (75-79 Marks)
- Commended (80-84 Marks)
- Highly Commended (85-89 Marks)
- Honours (90-94 Marks)
- Distinction (95-100 Marks)
Our results from this session were very good, nobody got below a merit (an excellent feat given our youngest participants had only just turned five!) Results as follows, a huge well done to all:
- 10 Merit
- 22 Commended
- 22 Highly Commended
- 10 Honours
- 5 Distinction
Moving on from the Medal Tests, we had three week off for our Christmas Break, before returning on Monday 8th January 2024, and the busy started immediately as some classes were involved in our second “Display of Dance” for the residents at Harvest Court in Moreton. For this one, we did all the numbers from Show 2023 that we didn’t use for our July Display, plus some medal tests and solos from the competition team (and Anita, to give people more time to get changed!) Once again, the show went down really well with the residents and staff, and we are hoping to return again later in the year.
Coming up next week is the first competition of the year for our small competition team, as we head to Ellesmere Port for the Ellesmere Port Winter Festival, held over two weekends (17th/18th & 24th/25th February this year), so good luck to the team, and keep an eye on our social media channels over those weekends for regular updates from the Comp!
Following this, we have our main event of the term, which is our annual March ISTD Modern Jazz & Tap exams. A shorter session this time (as is often case occasionally) as only three classes are going in; Primary Tap (Tuesday Group), Grade 2 Tap and Grade 4 Modern. Pupils will receive notes this week to pass onto parents with details.
The Last Day of Term this term will be Saturday 30th March 2024. Now obviously, the way things fall this year, that is Easter Saturday, so please be aware that we will be closed for the Bank Holiday on Good Friday – Friday 29th March 2024 – but we WILL be open for classes on the Saturday, with Open Classes all that week so you can watch your child’s class. We will be closed for two weeks over Easter, and the summer term will begin on Monday 15th April 2024.
The Competition Team will be in action over the first week of the Easter Holidays, for the Allied Dancing Association Easter Festival, a competition we have been going to for decades – so long that even Miss Mavis danced in this competition as a child! It’s a competition steeped in history and we love going. All the team will be in attendance and we will be posting updates as always, competition runs from 2nd/3rd – 5th April 2024. We do have some spaces available on the Competition Team at the moment, if you are interested have a look at our Competition Page or speak to Paula.
Finally, next term, we will have more ISTD Modern Jazz & Tap Exams, and we will be continuing to work towards our RAD Ballet Exams which will be the following term, so regular attendance is vital. As soon as we have a date for the summer exams, we will let you know, but it is likely to be around the beginning of July.
Thank You!
