SHOWS
Here at Mavlow School of Dance, we put on a Show every 2 years, during the Summer Term. We devote the whole term to learning and perfecting Show Numbers, which the children perform for 3 nights on Stage at Heswall Hall, our venue of choice since 2005. The Show usually takes place at the beginning of July.
SHOW 2019
This year's show was held at Heswall Hall on Saturday 29th June and Tuesday 2nd July. Preparations began at the beginning of the year with Paula and Anita thrashing out ideas one Sunday - although some show numbers had already been decided in advance by Paula. A few weeks later on another Sunday, all the music was sorted ready for the first rehearsals starting on the 25th March, and this gave us the usual 12 lessons to Choreograph, Teach and Perfect the show numbers, along with our 'Big Show Rehearsal' to join the finale together with all the classes, this year held on Wednesday 26th June.
This was the first show staged by Paula and Anita on their own as Miss Mavis (the schools founder) had retired in July 2018, so it meant a lot of work along with all the costumes to be made/bought but we were up for the challenge!!!
The show went amazingly, the children danced brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed both nights of the show. Feedback was excellent from parents, relatives and friends, obviously our long standing pupils know we put on a good show every time, but even many of those parents were saying it was the best ever, some of the newer parents comments were 'we were blown away by the standard', 'the variety was amazing' , 'great show', 'it was brilliant' to mention just a few of the comments given to us!
We always donate the show proceeds to cancer charities, this years main recipients were North West Cancer Research (Clatterbridge) £200, Claire House Children's hospice £200, small donations were also given to 'Fulfill the Wish' £30 and 'Art for Art's Sake' £10, both for children living with illness and disability.
We also did the Festival of Firsts Street Festival on Saturday the 5th July in the afternoon at St. Lukes church in Hoylake including some of the show numbers- well those that could be done on grass!! It went down very well with the audience and passing shoppers on Market street!
